Perhaps thus inspired, or perhaps as a haven for him to avoid confronting the emotional vortex, Cheng Zhaoci has dedicated himself to the work he has on hand.

One week later, the first chapter of his comic is finally released.

This time, the comments pour in with an unprecedented speed.

Cheng Zhaoci knows it has nothing to do with his comic – since some of them have practically started commenting as soon as he published his chapter.

Mainly, this cultural entertainment seems to have served as a haven for insectoids as well, to avoid confronting reality.

In fact, one comment says, that with everything that’s been going on, he actually feels a little touched the damned comic artist is still releasing his comics.

They might damn that comic artist wherever he goes, but it’s clear they’ve become emotionally attached.

Of course, there are also lots of less decent comments made on Cheng Zhaoci’s alt, but it’s already much less than occurring elsewhere.

The commenters have intentionally stuck to discussing the plot or jokingly chastise the comic artist’s usual frustrating plot points.

That’s when Evan sends Cheng Zhaoci a message.

His micro movie is done.

Cheng Zhaoci was quite surprised at the efficiency.

Insectoids sure have developed advanced technologies.

In his past world…

He can still faintly remember a friend on the Internet who works as a character modeller for a game company.

It was the norm for him to pack clothes and stuff to sleep at the company.

It’s rarer for him to be able to spend time at home.

Even his selfies consisted of eye bags not even beautification filters can save.

And his lifelong wish is to push the concept artists of the company off the building.

A man with a story to tell, that’s him.

He asks, and Ivan tells him that these models are easy to make.

It’s a bit like games where he can ‘stretch’ a character’s entire appearance out of thin air in his past life.

Apparently texturing and rendering are stuff taking less than a second here.

Cheng Zhaoci can’t help but think that this must be a world those modellers and programmers would die to visit.

However, with the current climate, Evan doesn’t dare release his project.

Just like Cheng Zhaoci, he’s also worried it will be misconstrued.

[IWan: I’m honestly at a loss, and I don’t even feel safe leaving my house anymore, and I can’t even contact theatres to release the movie even when it’s already done] Before that video was released by the pirates, he was thinking that the comic should have been an early enough work that he can release it in spite of the ongoing conflict.

His plans all lay in ruins now.

[BombInMyPants: same here, I have an assistant traumatised even]

It’s now a few days past, but Zhou Luoluo is still locking himself up at home.

Too afraid to even step outside, he is only maintaining contact with Cheng Zhaoci and others through his holodeck.

In fact, Zhou Xiaobao has told him privately it’s bad enough that even Lu Nianqian has expressed concern for Zhou Luoluo in response.

Zhou Luoluo was cheered up, of course, but he still doesn’t dare leave his house much.

He is also still a far cry from his usual talkative self.

[IWan: how long do you think the war will keep going]

How long Cheng Zhaoci doesn’t know either.

Though Evan can’t wait that much longer for the end.

[IWan: that micro movie is now just sitting on my desktop, I can’t just let it gather dust there if the war lasts for years]

[BombInMyPants: but you can’t mean to release it while the emotions are riding the highest]

Especially when that plot concerns a shemale victim.

If they dare to release it while the memory of the atrocities those shemale pirates did is still fresh, they’ll likely be accused of sympathising with space buccaneers; it is also certainly the case that many of the pirates have been mistreated by bad males in the past.

Of course, it isn’t a majority.

The majority of insectoids joining piracy are perhaps neglected, but not abused by their fathers.

Or they might simply be orphans or such who would never have the opportunity to meet a male in their entire lives.

The rumours that piracy could lead to them enslaving one of those haughty males is enough to convince them to join.

[IWan: so can I have the right to turn that love comic into a movie too With the demi reporter]

[BombInMyPants: … this is what you were after in the first place, isn’t it]

Of course, Cheng Zhaoci doesn’t mind.

He’s already given the completed ‘In a Tiny Flicker’ a watch, and it was quite well done.

He gives his editor a message and tells him to get Evan another contract.

Evan happily returns to his work of making character models.

Cheng Zhaoci goes back to drawing after the communications are done.

He creates and finishes a super simple, one-page comic in lieu of his usual work.

It’s drawn in chibi style, and has no colour or detailing.

He only gave it a simple, one-dimensional shadow.

He knows it is the best course of action not to say a word or mention anything about shemales and males, but he couldn’t let himself do nothing.

He wants to speak up, but he also cannot let others take advantage or misrepresent him.

So he decided to draw something whose message is more obscure than usual.

The comic’s title is really simple.

‘Who should I be’

The protagonist is drawn as a simple blob with a blob for a head, his gender indeterminate.

A disembodied speech bubble reads, “Who are you”

The blob looks right at the panel – like he is looking outside the panel.

Gesturing with his chibi hand, he replies, “I’m a shemale.”

After which, countless speech bubbles pierce their arrows through the little chibi insectoid.

‘Rude’

‘Brute’

‘Tone-deaf’

‘Braindead battle maniac’

The next panel, the disembodied speech reads, “Who are you”

The chibi insectoid answers male.

Now the text changes to read,

‘Arrogant’

‘Useless’

‘Frail’

‘Impregnation Tool’

The next panel’s chibi insectoid says he’s a demi-shemale.

‘Weak’

‘Inferior shemale’

‘Poverty-stricken’

‘Cubicle Farmer’

And, finally, “Who are you”

With a lot of arrowed speech bubbles restlessly twitching on frame towards the chibi insectoid.

He opens his mouth.

Then, the final panel.

Pure black, with one single phrase filling the space.

“Who should I be”

Which should he be It seems, whatever he answers, he’ll also become attached to the pile of labels involutarily.

There is not a single reference to males’ prerogatives or the inhumanity exhibited by those space buccaneers.

If one wants, they can simply see it as a short story that was simply created when the comic artist had a burst of inspiration.

It was created in less than a day, too.

Cheng Zhaoci can never change what the pirates are thinking.

He’s nowhere near capable enough to do that.

He just wants some insectoids – or at least, his own readers – to understand that, not all males are psychotic sadists, and not all shemales are suppressed mass murderers waiting for a chance to let loose.

They have to see past the current conflict.

They should think for themselves, based on what they see with their own eyes.

Are males all useless blobs of flesh wasting food and time That doesn’t even remotely apply to researchers of the First Research Institute that Bai Jun talked about, and to, for example, Lu Yao’s late xiongzhu.

While shemales… also have scumbags among them.

This is normal in any society.

Yet, these shemales are also the ones protecting and defending the Federation.

Every year, the overwhelming majority of casualties in wars are shemales.

They are also the ones keeping the entire society running smoothly.
