The recent death of Richard Pryor prompted me to look at the 2005 DVD
package of 1972's "Lady Sings the Blues", which proves the then-young
comedian to be a fine actor in the meaty supporting role of Piano Man.
Even though he was a master stand-up comic, it's still too bad he never
pursued roles of a similar dramatic caliber since he obviously had the
talent. Similarly, Diana R...

Genres: Comedy    Family    Fantasy    Sport

Starring: Dean Jones, Michele Lee, David Tomlinson, Buddy Hackett, Joe Flynn, ...

Dean Jones plays a race car driver who meets a pretty young woman (Michelle
Lee) he sees working in the window at a fancy car dealership.
He pretends to be interested in a car, but the dealer has nothing he can
afford. Well, actually, that's not true. There is one little Volkswagen
Beetle that was purchased by a woman who also bought a Bentley. She bought
it for her maid but ...

This movie had great memories from when I saw it as a kid. Usually, the
movie's never as good as it was, you know, when you see it again once
you're
older. This one is still great, though! The jokes and gags are, for the
most part, routine and common, but I think Peter Ustinov made the movie.
You just have to let go of everything and have fun with
it....

When I first saw "Charade", I was convinced for the longest time this was a
Hitchcock movie. Small wonder; Hitchcock all but set the standard for
quality mystery films. Still, I give director Donen my sincerest apologies.
Anyway, where did this film go?? Its tasteful humor, colorful characters
and intelligent plot make "Charade" one of the best mystery movies ever
made, but ...

Genres: Comedy    Crime    Drama    Sport    Music    Musical

Starring: Elvis Presley, Gig Young, Lola Albright, Joan Blackman, Charles Bronson, ...

As a big fan of Elvis Presley, Gig Young, and Charles Bronson, as well
as the sport of boxing, I enjoyed this movie for those reasons alone.
Elvis gives a decent performance, but is stereotyped by the script as a
goofy, goo-natured, lug-head, who has a natural gift of a cast-iron
chin and one-punch knockout power. Half the movie Elvis looks in a daze
with his mouth open catchin...

West Side Story, one of my personal favorite movies of all time and
without a doubt my favorite musical. Why do I love this film so much?
Because of it's high energy, great actors, terrific songs, awesome
dance numbers, and beautiful love story. As an updated Romeo and Juliet
story, we visit the streets of Manhattan, two gangs of different
ethnicities, Tony and Maria, the ...
