I attended a screening of Blayne Weaver's "Weather Girl" at the 2009
Los Angeles Film Festival. It had premiered at the Slamdance Film
Festival in January and was one of those "buzz films" here.Tricia O'Kelley stars a Seattle morning show's "sassy weather girl" who
has an over-the-top, painfully funny on-air meltdown over her cheating
boyfriend, the show's despi...

This is to me just an amazing, funny, delightful movie. But first ... to be honest, I wasn't planning on seeing this movie at
all. I had (woe be to me) never even heard of Tyler Perry. And the
film's title alone sounded ... well ... unappealing at best. The
synopsis I'd read suggested yet another movie with a man playing an
overweight black woman. That might have been funny once or ...
2003
Genres: Comedy    Crime

Starring: Jamie Kennedy, Taye Diggs, Anthony Anderson, Regina Hall, Blair Underwood, ...

Trying to sell my friends on this film, which I love, I tell them to
think of it as 'The Jerk' for the new millennium. You know the bit: An
innocent goof lives his life seemingly oblivious to the fact that he
is, eh.... um... Well, oblivious to who he is -- his talents (or lack),
and most importantly, to the way every other living being perceives
him.Hijinx ensues. --Very, very...

Genres: Comedy    Romance

Starring: David Duchovny, Nicky Katt, Catherine Keener, Mary McCormack, David Hyde Pierce, ...

`Full Frontal' is maybe my greatest deception this year. Directed by
Steven
Soderbergh and having such a cast, I would not believe that the film could
be such a crap. There are lots of characters, but none of them is well
developed. Therefore, the viewer sees many famous actors and actresses on
the screen and is not able to understand who they are, what are their
motives, w...

Genres: Action    Drama    Thriller    War

Starring: Tommy Lee Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Bruce Greenwood, ...

Last week, as I considered ordering this DVD, I checked the
IMDB
rating and saw a "fair" 6.5. Since I like Tommy Lee Jones
and Samuel L. Jackson, I placed the order.
Like most roller coasters, I found it to be a good ride
and
Jones and Jackson did very credible jobs. The flaws in
the
movie have been correctly pointed out by numerous other
reviewers. I was som...
1998
Genres: Action    Drama    Sci-Fi    Thriller

Starring: Robert Duvall, Téa Leoni, Elijah Wood, Vanessa Redgrave, Morgan Freeman, ...

5.9!? I can't believe that. I know disaster movies are usually crap
such as The Day After Tomorrow, Armageddon, Godzilla, Independence Day,
etc. This however was not crap. It boasted a fine cast that did great
work the standout being Morgan Freeman and Robert Duvall. The rest of
the cast though also did quite well. The story was handled in a fairly
realistic manner and didn't r...

Genres: Drama    Romance    Sci-Fi    Thriller

Starring: Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Gore Vidal, Xander Berkeley, Jayne Brook, ...

Gattaca is a brilliant under-rated piece of cinema that the not-too-distant
future will, in retrospect, see it as one of the more outstanding movies of
the nineties. It is prolific, stylish, thought-provoking, and one of the
few recent science fiction movies that totally foregoes special effects and
does it well. There is nothing about Gattaca that I didn't like. It is a subtle pi...
1996
Genres: Action    Crime    Drama    Thriller

Starring: Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox, Kimberly Elise, John C. McGinley, ...

"Set it Off" is another brilliant little B sleeper by the talented F. Gary
Gray. What sets this film apart from your routine crime caper/heist flick is
that it features some very impressive and strong performances by Jada
Pinkett-Smith (one of her very best roles) and Quen Latifah. Vivica Fox,
Kimberly Elise and the underrated John C. McGinty were also quite effective
in suppor...
1995
Genres: Crime    Drama    Horror    Mystery    Thriller

Starring: Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Capshaw, Blair Underwood, Ed Harris, ...

"Just Cause" is a psychological thriller about the American justice system
in general, and capital punishment in particular. Sean Connery plays Paul
Armstrong, a law professor who strongly opposes capital punishment.
Responding to a plea, Armstrong comes out of semi-retirement and travels to
Florida to help the young, black death row prisoner Bobby Earl Ferguson, who
claims he ...

Genres: Western

Starring: Mario Van Peebles, Stephen Baldwin, Charles Lane, Tommy 'Tiny' Lister, Big Daddy Kane, ...

This movie has some great character actors, Isaac Hayes, Woody Strode,
Pam Grier, Paul Bartel, and unfortunately they are mostly wasted. The
development of the main characters is too rushed, and the story races
on at a breakneck pace. "Posse' borrowed liberally from the "spaghetti
westerns" ( revenge flashbacks as in "For a Few Dollars More", gattling
gun as in "A Fistful o...
