Dermot Mulroney delivers a spectacular performance in Griffin and
Phoenix, which premiered on Lifetime this evening. Mulroney is Griffin,
a New Yorker who learns he has cancer and has but a year or two at the
most to live. Griffin meets Phoenix (Amanda Peet, at her best) while
taking a class at a university, and he pursues her, not telling her he
has cancer. As the two grow clo...

Knowing through logic or knowing through intuition - and if we suppress
what's staring us in the face, how can we find the truth? Such are the
elements of a good mystery; and in the case of Stephanie Daley they are
also the subject matter.Tilda Swinton is a forensic psychologist trying to determine if 16 year
old Stephanie Daley (Amber Tamblyn) knew she was pregnant. As the gir...

I am not a "film person," per se. I accompanied my 17 yr. old son to
the Newark Black Film Festival because he wants to be a film person,
and I wanted to introduce him to the Film Festival world. I found
Premium to be witty and hip, as well as, textured and sophisticated. A
Black man's story about male/female relationships, strike that, any
man's story about non-buddy r...

Genres: Drama    Mystery    Romance    Thriller

Starring: Nicole Kidman, Cameron Bright, Danny Huston, Lauren Bacall, Alison Elliott, ...

I can understand why people react so aversely to this film, but, in
Birth's defence, it's quite a demanding a piece for it to suit
everyone's tastes.Granted, the plot is slightly unpalatable, and yes, there are instances
when the film appears to veer into senslessness, but, unless you want a
clear-cut resolution, this cannot quite be written off as shoddy work
on the part of an...

Genres: Drama    Comedy    Crime    Romance

Starring: Jamie Bell, Bill Pullman, Michael Angarano, Danso Gordon, Novella Nelson, ...

This flick, with its subtle views on America's obsession with weapons,
is likely not going to be a crowd pleaser. One of the main reasons for
this is the films use of highly symbolic mise-en-scene takes several
viewings to fully appreciate. Another reason for the let down is that
some might be inclined to want more action for a movie that centralizes
on guns.However, this movie...

Genres: Biography    Drama    Romance

Starring: Derek Luke, Malcolm David Kelley, Cory Hodges, Denzel Washington, Joy Bryant, ...

This is the ONLY movie I've ever been moved to write about. I rarely
even watch movies let alone offer opinions, but this movie is
exceptional in so many ways. The acting is powerful and believable
(duh.. it's real..), and the entire story is totally captivating. I was
watching on satellite and had to endure commercials, and it was sheer
torture waiting for the movie to resume....

Genres: Crime    Thriller

Starring: Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow, Viggo Mortensen, David Suchet, Sarita Choudhury, ...

I went into A Perfect Murder expecting to enjoy it, but I recognised
the fact that I wouldn't be in for a great film. To be honest, I love
thrillers like this as they offer a solid two hours (or so) of non-too
taxing entertainment, and what's not to like about that? A Perfect
Murder is an update of the Hitchcock classic 'Dial M For Murder', and
while the film doesn't touch Hitc...

First of all, let me say that the first "Weeeknd At Bernie's" is a
tough movie to "follow up." The premise (while by the end of the first
movie it may have seemed worn out) was fresh for its time and the humor
was totally there. As for the sequel, I was glad to see Richard and
Larry still hanging out together. It was also nice to see that their
characters didn't change much. Ri...

Genres: Crime    Drama    Music

Starring: Richard Gere, Gregory Hines, Diane Lane, Lonette McKee, Bob Hoskins, ...

The first time I saw this movie I loved the music and dancing and
appreciated the setting. I found it strange and couldn't follow it
properly. I watched it a second and third time, partly to see the dancing
again, and listen to the music, and the plot completely grew on me. I
absolutely love this movie. It is complex, and extremely accurate in its
portrayal of the time when...
1978
Genres: Comedy    Drama    Romance

Starring: Jill Clayburgh, Alan Bates, Michael Murphy, Cliff Gorman, Patricia Quinn, ...

Moving tale of a middle-class Manhattan housewife's struggle for
independence after her husband leaves her for another woman. The wonderful Paul Mazursky created this 1978 landmark slaute to women's
liberation and the film wipes the floor with the messy urban horror of
1977's Looking for Mr. Goodbar: Goodbar's makers ultimately had no respect
for their female protagonist but Mazur...
