I rented this movie as soon as it came out on video so i did not get
the full effect of a movie going experience. I suggest this movie to
anyone looking for a movie that will make them think and does fit the
average movie mold. I really like how in the movie everything in the plot came together.
Throughout the movie I struggled to understand the events that were
happening,...

DEFENDOR: After the brilliantly funny and over-the-top "Kick-Ass", this
movie comes like a cold shower: a dark drama/comedy about the more
plausible scenario of a man, Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson),
psychologically scarred and with an IQ of 80, who sets out on a
quixotic mission to find "Captain Industry", a villain he holds
responsible for a trag...

Having seen numerous reviews praising this movie I had high
expectations. Unfortunately this movie wasn't the interesting look into
the mind of a killer that I was expecting. I haven't read the original
novel so I can't comment on how this movie compares to it, but as a
stand alone movie it is extremely slow and makes very little sense.
From the bizarre cart...

I haven't seen the Scandinavian original of which this is a Hollywood
remake, so I am judging this entirely on its own merits.Loner Owen is bullied at school, so he is pleased to meet a soulmate in
new neighbour Abby. When savage murders start taking place in the
neighbourhood, we know it's vampire Abby feeding, but Owen is a bit
slow on the uptake. Meanwhile, bullyi...

I just saw a screening of this movie last night. I didn't know a thing
about it when I sat down. By the end of the movie I was sitting in my
seat and staring at the screen with hollow eyes.I looked at my girlfriend and our faces said: "No way... but... no,
couldn't be... good god!" The use of real vs. recreated footage gets you. The sounds in the real
footage and recordin...

I'm sure it helped that I was in the right mood and the right
atmosphere when I saw this movie at a midnight screening at South by
Southwest, but The Haunting in Connecticut was a horror movie that
really struck a chord with me.I'm a longtime fan of this genre, getting acquainted with all the old
classics and cult films through USA Saturday Night Horror when I was

Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Gwyneth Paltrow, Vinessa Shaw, Moni Moshonov, Isabella Rossellini, ...

Perhaps, the most startling aspect of "Two Lovers" is Joaquin Phoenix's
performance. Superb. I haven't really liked any of the James Gray's
films, until now that is. There is something profoundly moving and
profoundly truthful here and I'm sure it has to do with Phoenix's
portrayal. Gwynneth Paltrow is wonderful as the girl walking an
emotional tightrope. An...

If you are a fan of Salomon Burke, Etta James, Dr. John, or just love
blues and swing, "Dark Streets" would appear to be dream come true. In
this tale of a doomed 1930s rich boy turned night club owner, even
actresses Bijou Phillips and Izabella Miko hold their own as club
singers delivering their songs with plenty of gusto and sex-appeal
while the dancers and music scorch the ...

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a film unlike any I've ever seen
and probably ever will. A true epic that left me utterly speechless. It
accomplished so much through such simplicity. Everything was top notch
from the elegant directing to the subtly wonderful performances down to
the magical score. The film demands you to feel not only for the death
we witness, but fo...

OK, I've been wanting to watch this for soooo long and finally I made
it! First of all forget the adverts, they completely betray the movie.
I was expecting a real good HK gangster movie with a western edge but
what I got was much slower, more serious and very edgy. Josh Hartnett
was great, possibly the best I've ever seen him and to be honest I
usually can't sta...

I am tired of people writing comments like this, "Not Fincher's best".
Honestly who cares. We all agree that Fincher's best is either Seven or
Fight Club, two outstanding masterpieces. There is a big margin between
a film like one of those and a terrible film, and people don't seem to
realize that. These people even do this with other filmmakers like
Spielberg or Sc...

While Girl in the Park is never great, it manages to be a solid drama
about the loss of a young child and its effect on a mother (Sigourney
Weaver).Everything here is well crafted but a little bland and formulaic. We
meet tons of characters who have the seeds to provide good drama but
many of them (The ex husband, the son, the romantic interest at the

I saw this film on September 1st, 2005 in Indianapolis. I am one of the
judges for the Heartland Film Festival that screens films for their
Truly Moving Picture Award. A Truly Moving Picture "...explores the
human journey by artistically expressing hope and respect for the
positive values of life." Heartland gave that award to this film. This is a story of golf in the early part of ...

I remember a time, in the not too distant past, when any new movie starring
Arnold Schwarzenegger was treated as an event. Nowadays, his films slip in
and out of town with nary a person even noticing. What's happened? The sad
but obvious explanation is that, as he's aged, Arnold has had to make way
for younger, more dynamic action stars, leaving him stuck with leftover
crumb...

The high frequency of attacks on this film as being 'proArmenian propaganda'
is a testament to the power of the movie. The historical accuracy or moral
culpability of the Turks vs. the Armenians in this conflict is not within my
knowledge base to judge absolutely, nor that of most of the posters on IMDB,
I suspect, so I will just judge this as a movie.Egoyan has managed the trick o...

The fact that so many people hated this film comes as no surprise to me, but
not, I believe, because it was a bad film. On the contrary this was a superb
film that has, for those willing to look beneath the surface, a much deeper
story to be told.Simply put, the film is not 'feel-good'. The subject matter is disturbing,
and challenges one's view of religion and belief in the existe...

Fallen is not your typical suspense film. There is very little gore, a
clever plot, gorgeous cinematography...but it all adds up to the scariest
movie I've ever seen. Why? It plays with your mind. The horror is confined
to your brain and not shown onscreen. Some people will (and do) hate this
film; it eschews graphic storytelling for a visual, intellectual approach.
The ending,...

Having taken the time to read scores of reviews for TTRL (including IMDb

Gattaca is a brilliant under-rated piece of cinema that the not-too-distant
future will, in retrospect, see it as one of the more outstanding movies of
the nineties. It is prolific, stylish, thought-provoking, and one of the
few recent science fiction movies that totally foregoes special effects and
does it well. There is nothing about Gattaca that I didn't like. It is a subtle pi...

I love this film. I have now viewed it three times and I still keep
getting something new out of each viewing. I think it's one of Cronenberg's best. It is not, however, for the
uninitiated. By that, I mean those who are not familiar with
Cronenberg's previous work, and those who have not read J.G. Ballard,
whose novel was the basis for this film. Cronenberg excels at bringing diff...

Religion has always been a clouded issue to me. There is absolutely no
evidence that there is a God or an afterlife. But that hasn't stopped
me ( and billions of people ) from believing in something. And I have
always been taught that if there is good, then there is also the bad.
If there is a heaven, there has to be a hell. The Prophecy tells us
that there is, but it is no...

Whether film buffs would ever admit it or not, the original Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is a classic film, arguably way before its

lack the apparent actual violence it did instead have great dramatic
scenes blended in with witty comedic lines. With a dark tone and gritty cinematography filmed with fantastic...

I was disappointed with this movie. Not that I don't like this kind of
comedy, I loved the first one, but this just doesn't live up to that. It's not the kids' fault though. Mikey is still a cutie, and he's got some
good jokes, although I don't get the speaking arrangement - he says a word
or two himself, and then it suddenly switches to the male voice. I think
they should have chos...

I happened upon this movie just channel surfing and was just floored.
Great
movie from start to finish. Elias Koteas gives an awesome performance that
just shows once again how he is one of the most overlooked actors in
Hollywood. But what really caught me was the story and dialogue. This
movie
was wonderfully written. I would've never guessed Hogan had it in him.

Boy, what a frustrating film to watch....even though it is very good
and has been a part of my collection for a number of years now. Still,
it's hard to see the good guy, the little guy, beaten up by the big
guys. Here's one story where Goliath beats David. Anyway, this was an interesting supposedly- true-life story of how
Preston Tucker got a raw deal form the Big Three ca...

It's refreshing to have a movie about teens in love that doesn't rely
upon sex to gain the viewer's interest. I love this movie, have
probably seen it a a few dozen times, especially in the original,
unedited version (that wasn't shortened to fit into a two-hour TV
time-slot). It's a classic story, but told from a timeless
perspective---the movie first ran in 1987, yet there's ...

When One Magic Christmas came out in 1985 on TV, my mom recorded it on
to a VHS tape. We had this beat up, bad copy of the movie. You had to
turn the volume up all the way in order to hear anything, still this
movie was amazing to me. Mary Steenbergen doesn't believe in Christmas
or Santa. She is such a scrooge about the season, that not even her
kids' excitement could ...
