I happened to watch NATHALIE...(2003) a few years earlier, the French
film directed by Anne Fontaine which Egoyan's version is based on. So
the biggest plot twist has little affect to me, though he changed the
ending to make the story subjected to a more wider audience, but
shamefully became a faulty stroke as the intention is feasible as
Egoyan simply failed to do so...

The usual hazards of life examined with an unusual premise. Lisa
Cholodenko's outstanding family comic-drama uses its two-mums premise
to tip and highlight the drama. But that's it. With the possible
exception of a sing-alonga-Joni (Mitchell) sequence and a clumsily
edited first kiss this is not a lesbian film. Rather it's a progression
of sequences that exa...

I told myself at the start of this film that if the director had the
male lead remove his glasses (to indicate in a clichéd manner that the
character was becoming less of a "nerd") that I was going to walk out.
Well, the glasses were removed, as I expected, but it was so near the
end of the movie that I persevered. Two general classes of film are worth watching, ...

Having seen quite a few films produced by Christine Vachon, I
recognised a similar aesthetic in this film. Vachon's films often
portray unconventional sexuality or other challenging social themes,
but in a stylised way that is more accessible to wider audiences than
grittier art-house films. This film would make a terrific companion
piece to Christophe Honor...

Next is a much better movie than I expected to see, having read some of
the reviews which called it disjointed and silly. Quite to the
contrary, I found it deeply absorbing. I quickly picked up on the
elements which must have caused some reviewers to accuse it of being
disjointed, and began enjoying them. Of course silliness is part of any
sci-fi story, we suspend our critical ...

I went to see this movie without catching any reviews, expecting
something rather depressing and underfunded.Let me stop there and start again. This movie is a revelation from start to finish. A convincing future
world, deftly conveyed with so many subtle signals that I'm sure it
will benefit from further viewings. A completely "other" England which
I was amazed to see realised ...

I'll admit, I read the novel a few years ago and I was a big fan of it.
So I went into the theater already wanting to like the movie. I wasn't
as concerned with plot details as some other viewers apparently were.
Since I knew what was going to happen, I simply focused on reliving the
story, and seeing how the filmmakers interpreted it. It's such a dense
novel with so much going...

I went into a screening of this film cold. I didn't know anything about
it except that it starred Julianne Moore. I walked by a poster of the
film on the way into the theater and was horrified, thinking it was
going to be a chick flick.Well, folks. When I go into a theater and I can't take my eyes off the
screen and the movie goes by without me ever even checking my watch, I
kn...

It's not that Trust the Man is a bad movie. It's not without some
merit. But it's a film that could have been better had some time been
taken with the script and with the direction. Spain's great filmmaker,
Almodovar, complained this week that American movies have year by year
become worse and worse because of their scripts. This film serves as a
great example o...

Wallace Shawn, the author of "Marie and Bruce", who wrote the original
play in which this film is based on, is a man whose work in the theater
leaves a lot to be desired. I don't wish anyone the experience we had
with a play he co-wrote with a brother and that was seen at the Mineta
Lane Theater in New York about three years ago, in which the audience
kept leaving the perfo...

This movie reminds me of the romantic screwball comedies from the 30's,
40's and 50's. The movie succeeds in following the humor, witty dialogs
and great pace witch made the romantic comedies of old so great. That
is, until the ending. The entire ending is ruined, copy-pasted from
every other average romantic comedy today (they split up, the guilty
one realizes his/her fault an...

My comment to my wife after watching the film was "if aliens came to
earth and wanted to know what was meant by the term 'Hollywood
Ending'", then they would just have to watch this film to find out.As previously mentioned, the first half of the movie is interesting.
The often used premise of "what is reality" and the thought that that
which you hold as real runs counter to what ev...

Todd Haynes' Far From Heaven, a homage to the 1950s melodramas of Douglas
Sirk, is an exquisitely crafted film of beauty and grace. The world that
Haynes creates is so meticulously detailed that one almost forgets that
the
movie isn't fifty years old.Julianne Moore deserves an Academy Award for her portrayal of Cathy
Whitaker, a homemaker whose idyllic life begins to disintegra...

If you have read any of the other reviews on this page, you have probably
figured out "The Hours" is not the easy, mainstream film it was made out
to
be by the ads and the reviews. Starring three of today's most popular
leading actresses, winner of some Golden Globe awards, based on a Pulitzer
Prize winning novel, and the recipient of numerous rave reviews; it would

It's frustrating reading so many negative IMDb comments and media
reviews of "Hannibal", because the problems lie not with the film
itself but the expectations most take into their viewing of it. It is
also obvious that few critics and commentators are familiar with or
fans of Thomas Harris' books; most have only seen the film version of
"Silence of the Lambs" which, wh...

I can't say I suspected much from the previews. I anticipated another lame
comedy and a cheap imitation of "Men in Black." "Evolution" can be compared
to "MIB" in certain aspects, but it breaks new ground.I can't give a really scientific review, because quite frankly I was too
busy laughing to weigh out the pros and cons. This is a great popcorn
movie! (Metaphorically speaking,...

Director Lasse Halstrom continues to prove himself to be outstanding at
presenting sensitive human dramas with this touching film about a broken

deliberately and delicately as each of the main characters shares his or her
dark secrets buried in the past.Halstrom is an inspired actors' director who entices outstanding...

As I left this movie, someone said "How nice to see an intelligent
movie!"The risk going in was that it would be ONLY an intelligent - or at least
clever - piece, all period manners and costumes. In fact, with all the
Oscar
Wilde wit which sounds wonderfully fresh here, there are also rich moments
of emotional depth throughout this amusing but also quite moving
film.One the...

It's hard to believe a film this sunny came from Robert Altman, and is also
this good, but there you go. While I love some of his films, like M*A*S*H,
MCCABE AND MRS. MILLER, NASHVILLE, THE PLAYER, and SHORT CUTS, there are
times when I feel he has a fundamental contempt for his subject matter, like
in THE LONG GOODBYE and POPEYE, and for his characters. But while this
movie,...

I spend my life analyzing patterns in DNA, and I believe I fell in love
with
Magnolia for the embedded patterns and well-placed logic that organizes
this
gorgeous superstructure of a movie. In the introduction the narrator
recounts instances of eerie co-incidences. Throughout the main story, the
narrator suggests to the viewer that there is more to reality than "just"

The Big Lebowski is the type of movie that is so funny, and so clever, you
want nothing more but to meet the Coen brothers, congratulate them
personally for their unique talent, and get inside their heads and find
out
what makes these two geniuses "tick". The main characters are Jeff
Bridges
(who plays such broad roles like The Muse, The Contender, and Sea
Biscuit),

My Rating: *** out of ****. I dont understand all the horrible reviews for this film. Sure not a great
film, but definitely a good, entertaining movie. I enjoyed it just as much
as the first Jurassic Park. The Lost World still contains impressive, eye popping effects. These are
just as flawless as the CGI as the first Jurassic Parks. There are more
dinosaurs and they all look great...

Boogie Nights is perhaps one of the greatest examples any would-be
filmmaker
should take a long hard look at. Sure, you could spend loads of quality
time reviewing the clasics from Hitchcock to Scorsese; but lets follow suit
for the modern generation and study half-heartedly.Where to begin, I suppose one could look at the film as simply a story,
perhaps even docudrama which fo...

This movie is action packed and definitely worth watching for any fan
of action movies. I'm surprised at the low rating it's has so far on
IMDb.Two of my favorite actors are in the movie, Sylvester Stalone and
Antonio Banderas. I just found out the movie is written by the same
people who did the Matrix and I can see how that is so. Any movie with
Banderas is usually goo...

Beautifully filmed, Madonna never looked better. This campy thriller
gave Madonna fans some of her most famous lines--"Men Lie", "Have you
ever seen animals make love", That's what I do, I", and a few others.
Her clothes are incredible and Julianne Moore is very pretty too. Now,
the problem lies not so much within Madonna's acting but timing...the
film was released 3 months aft...

Nothing is more thrilling to see than two characters with superior
intelligences, pitting their wits against each other. A thriller does not
require a great deal of plot or techno-babble to be involving or complex,
although many distributors of blockbusters today seem to think so. For
these
reasons, "The Fugitive" is a huge blessing for a movie critic such as I. I
was just ...

I really identify with this movie, and with Joon. I myself am mentally ill
(in fact, disabled by it). I don't think it matters that her mental
illness is unspecified... so many mental illnesses overlap in real life, and
often DO go unspecified even if the person is counselling.I am mentally ill and (as birds of a feather flock together) know many
people who are also mentally ill...

I saw this movie on TV and I have to admit.. I loved it! I was planning to
go to sleep but once this movie came on I watched it all the way through!
Although not exactly an Oscar winner, it had a charm all it's own. I think
the cast was what made it, I loved Betty Lou and especially Eric Thal as
Alex! They had great chemistry and were really cute together! This is a fun
cute mo...
