Everyone connected to this movie should be slapped repeatedly by the ghost of Henry James
I caught this movie at first in the middle, when Anna was looking for
the children at the pond. I recognized the scene immediately and when she called the child "Flora", I knew it was a remake of The Innocents, one of my all time favorite movies. So I found when it was on again and recorded it to watch later, what a mistake! Why do people who make remakes feel obliged to include an obligatory lesbian scene? The aura of suspense was completely obliterated by Anna's wacky behavior, supposedly attributed to her childhood abuse. The tension between Anna and the children regarding Jessel and Quint was non-existent - this is at the core of the story. What a waste of film..
A really tedious piece of drivel
Yes, scary movie fans, don't be deceived by the looks of the DVD box
cover, this movie is one tedious piece of drivel. A young art teacher is sexually harassed by her professor-boss, so she leaves her job to become the governess of two children at a country estate. While there she begins to hear voices, thinks she might be seeing dead people, and even observes the children misbehaving. But, no one is sure; maybe she's just nuts. Slowly, very slowly, very very very slowly, the plot thickens. Is she crazy? Are there ghosts haunting this house? Will the children like her? If you can sit through this movie, then you get your answer to these wrenching questions at the end. However, if you've got any gray matter between your ears, and any appreciation for a well scripted ghost story, you'll probably feel cheated out of an hour and a half of your life. For any who may have heard this was an erotic thriller, a word of advice: the single brief sex scene isn't worth the torture of sitting through this movie. Rent something else!. |
