"Hairspray" is an amazing movie that everyone should see and that
anyone can enjoy. The movie is about Tracy Turnblad (the amazing, fun
Nikki Blonsky) who desperately wants to be on The Corny Collins Show, a
fun "American Bandstand" type of dancing show. The show features a slew
of white kids, including fan girl icon Link Larkin (the very talented
heartthrob Zac Efron) and his spoiled girlfriend Amber von Tussle
(Brittany Snow, who gives a surprisingly great performance), who is the
daughter of station manager Velma von Tussle (the sexy Michelle
Pfeiffer), a conniving woman who is fighting to keep integration from
Tracy decides to audition for the show, however, she is completely
laughed out of the room because she is overweight. Tracy makes friends
with a colored boy named Seaweed (Elijah Kelley), who is apart of Negro
Day on The Corny Collins Show. When Velma axes Negro Day, Tracy
realizes it is time to take a stand and do what's right.
This is probably one of the best feel good movie's I have ever seen. It
is heartwarming and literally brightens your day. It's fun, upbeat, and
has an amazing soundtrack of fun and catchy songs with a timeless
substance to it.
The musical numbers are amazing. They are seriously breathtaking. I
don't know how else to describe it.
The cast is amazing as well. John Travolta gives a hilarious and
memorable performance as Tracy's mother. Michelle Pfeiffer makes a
great villain as does her on screen daughter, Brittany Snow. Zac Efron
really surprised me in this movie. He really is talented. James Marsden
gave an awesome performance as Corny Collins. He's got a great voice
and can really dance. Queen Latifah gave a breathtaking performance as
Motormouth Maybelle. She has a powerhouse voice that gave me
goosebumps. Amanda Bynes plays Penny Pingleton, Tracy's best friend. I
really had my doubts about her, but she gave a great and lovable
performance as well as Elijah Kelley, who blew me away.
But in the midst of this celebrity filled cast, newcomer Nikki Blonsky
definitely stole the show. She was fun and lovable and has an amazing
career ahead of her.
The movie was also extremely funny and has things that both kids and
adults can laugh at.
It also has a great message about not disciminating others. Normally, I
don't like "message" movies, but this movie avoided being cheesy and
instead became amazingly heartwarming.
You MUST see this movie. It is seriously one of the best, if not THE
best, movie of 2007..

samanthasammy watch One Tough Bastard movie
Most of the casting in this movie is spot on, but I just can't stand John Travolta as Edna Turnblad. He smirks and minces through the whole thing, and changes his voice to try to sound more like a woman. And I like John Travolta in most things. His performance cannot measure up to the standard set by Divine in the original film, or Harvery Fierstein in the Broadway musical. Zac Efron was so good as Link, and Queen Latifah kills it as usual as Motormouth... but I just can't bring myself to watch the movie again. I'd have to miss half the movie fast forwarding through all the John Travolta parts!.
WHAT THE FUCK WAS DAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????/.
I saw this film when it was reeased in the cinema and don't think me and my friends enjoyed a film that we all liked as we normally disagree. However i think that the storyline along with songs and John Travolta as a woman make it a great film to watch with friends or family. .
great movie fun and entertaining..
i really loved the movie.
What A GREAT Movie
So I just went to a sneak peak of Hairspray this morning and was I
pleasantly surprised. As a huge fan of Hairspray the stage show and of
music theatre in general, this could be my favorite movie musical
(Chicago, Rent, Phantom, Dreamgirls). The cast was for the most part
quite stellar. Nikki Blonsky was one terrific Tracy. Very surprised and
impressed with Amanda Bynes as well as Zac Effron. Elijah Kelley was
impressive as Seaweed as well. John Travolta was very funny and was a
great dancer (even in heals). Love Christopher Walkin's performance as
well. Michelle Pfeiffer was a great evil Velma (although her singing
was the weakest of the movie). Queen Latifah was PERFECT in this role,
got to love her! The story lines altered from the stage show some
(don't worry I won't spoil anything). But the differences were not
distracting; the movie still made wonderful sense and had a great flow.
Although I was bummed that several songs were cut, the ones that were
kept in were sensational. Of special note were "I Can Hear the Bells,"
"Welcome to the 60's," "I Know Where I've Been," and "Without Love."
These movie musicals just keep getting better and better. I can't wait
for Sweeny Todd this Christmas!!!.
