I'm a New Zealander and I live in Australia. I'm also one of the many
guilty people who do not support his own film-making community. I
didn't make any effort to see this in a cinema and when I did finally
sit to watch this magnificent film on DVD, I'm totally ashamed of
myself for not having seen this in the cinema. This is brilliance from
New Zealand. Sheer brilliance.

Superb film-making at it's very best.

Bravo to the cast and wonderful crew who helped put this together. I
was glued to my seat, rocked by every emotion in turn throughout what
is a very high value piece of art. The cast is brilliant and I'm very
proud to say that New Zealand can put something out like this one. Not
only did it make my so homesick for my home country but inspired me to
continue in my own quest to make quality productions.

I gave this 10/10. How could I find a flaw? You can't, so don't look..

This movie is both a cultural study of native people and their beliefs, combined with the purity of youth and youthful dreams. Environmentalists and animal rights advocates will glean a s much from this as will metaphysical spiritualists of all ages. The girl starring in this role does a phenomenal, oscar-winning performance that is far beyond her years of acting experieince. She truly felt, lived and breathed this role with astonishing reality. Good job. A good choice for family movie night..

This film was amazing. I'd heard the scuttlebutt surrounding it,
claiming it was magical and wonderful and all but I stalled when I had
a chance to see it at the cinema. I wish I hadn't stalled... Keisha
Castle-Hughes is an amazing young actress, who conveys more emotion on
her face and in her actions than so many others who are twice her age
do WITH dialog. She's got a bright future ahead of her. While the
entire cast was excellent, I particularly enjoyed the tense scenes
between her character Pai and her grandfather. This film will bring you
to tears at certain points, then lift your spirits up in the next
scene. It's a magnificently filmed piece that will stay with you long
after it ends. For a quiet little movie that's plot-driven like this,
it blows the doors off of so many of the other louder, less
story-driven releases that have come out. Give this one a chance when
you're sitting at home, wondering what you're going to watch on t.v.
some night. Great..
