I love this movie
Maybe it wasn't the best movie ever but it was quite unique and very
family oriented, something I think is missing in today's society are movies that the whole family can sit down and watch together. I found the storyline very amusing and intriguing, the leading actors did their jobs well, you could identify with each character and the whimsical nature of most of the fairytale setting was delightful. I do not think I can say one specific part was my favorite but I did think it so funny that the younger troll's kept jamming out to Night Fever by, well as they put it, The Brothers Gibb until the batteries in the boombox ran out and they tossed it into the river. Every character is memorable and the story flows along without stalling or bogging down. I bought this on VHS the next day and since then we've watched it so much one of the tapes has messed up, I am soon going to purchase on DVD as it is something I want not only to watch myself but it is one movie I can watch with my nephews without worrying they will be bored or that there is something in it they don't need to hear or see.. This movie really is one of the greatest. I saw it in 2000 on NBC and
fell in love with it. Six years later, I rented it for the first time
since seeing it on TV and fell in love all over again. A few months
after that in October, I bought the DVD and read the book! Now I want
the soundtrack and the book (I had borrowed it from a friend). It is
just perfect...enchanting fairy story, comedy, romance, great special
effects, lovely music, an awesome cast, and exquisite scenery! And I
don't mind that it is 7 hours. In fact, I like it that way, because
there is free reign to tell the story, and the more the merrier, if it
is a good movie, which it is! There's more to enjoy! I would compare
The 10th Kingdom to such fantasy greats as Harry Potter and The Lord of
the Rings, with ordinary people thrown into an extraordinary events and
a voyage of self discovery. This is one of my favorite movies, and if
you see it, I am sure it will become one of yours.

Happily ever after is back!
The 10th Kingdom was much better than I had expected, and I had high hopes
going into it! It was a visual delight with fantastic effects and locations. I couldn't wait for each installment. Scott Cohen did a fantastic job as the over-the-top Wolf. I was routing for Wolf and Virginia from their first meeting. Dianne Wiest makes a potentially one dimensional character come to life. Kimberly Williams and John Larroquette shine! The trolls are delightful and disgusting at once, particularly Ed O'Neill. The movie reminded me of all of the fairy tales I heard growing up. I was eagerly awaiting the addition of each new well-known character. Camryn Manheim as Snow White was a surprise, but she did a wonderful job. Happily ever after may not have lasted as long as Prince Wendell wanted, but its definitely back with the 10th Kingdom!. |
