On of the worst war movies I have EVER seen
I will NEVER understand the people giving this film a 7, 8, 9 or 10
vote. It's just beyond my understanding. This is one of the worst war movies I have ever seen. Why is this movie bad? 1) Lee Marvin plays quite good, but he is too old for his role, he looks like 89 years and still running around dodging bullets 2) No story AT ALL, I mean, it got a story since it's WW2 material, but they tell it in a very poor way, nothing happens and it the movies NEVER has a thrilling moment 3) The other main roles are just played pure bad, absolutely no good acting at all. I get no empathy over them, if anyone die, I get the feeling of "Who cares? I don't even know him" 4) Annoying and screechy music 5) Difficult to keep track of what actually happens in the movie. First you are there, then you are there. Where does that bullet belong? Who did it hit? Who is the Germans, who is the Americans? Does the Englishmen use American helmets now? Ahh, who cares. You probably will get a good sleep until the next bullet fires. 6) Bad acting 7) Bad acting 8) Bad acting 9) Possibly the worst dialogue I have experienced in a movie 10) Bad acting 11) The actors who are supposed to be Germans in the movie, has the most useless German accent I have ever heard in my life. You can say they speak ordinary English with "und" instead of "and". What is good about this movie? 1) Well, I guess the blood looked rather real 2) At least they tried 3) It eventually ends Und for the record. Please don't get me wrong, I am not one of those people who hates old movies und because they contain to little action, to few naked ladies and so on. This just wasn't good. Avoid it. 3/10. richard henry watch A History Of Violence movie

Vignettes of the Survivors of War
The Big Red One isn't so much a war movie as it is a message, sometimes
obscure, of what war is really like. There is much symbolism in this movie, for example the human arm, with a wristwatch on it, washing in the bloody surf of Omaha Beach. If you want realistic detail of combat, watch Saving Private Ryan. If you want to the voice of experience, blurry from the passage of time, The Big Red One is a movie to see. Keep in mind that this movie reflects the life experiences of some survivors of WWII. That Lee Marvin was cast as the grizzled sergeant is part of the symbolism: Marvin was a combat Marine who participated in the invasion of Saipan; he is cast as a survivor of WWI who is retracing part of the path he took during that conflict. I found some of the scenes from the movie barely believable, for example, the French insane asylum, but you must keep in mind that there is a message from the survivors of that war in each and every scene. How you take the message, apparently, is up to you.. |
