Recommended for ex-Soviet
The only reason I bought this movie is it related to the USSR. It's
quite explicit on the image my country had out there. I can only guess why Soviet propaganda ignored it's existence giving enough attention same time to Rambo, Rocki IV and Red Dawn. Most of the above mentioned movies makes you rather laugh on the "accuracy" of Russian characters and soldiers in particular. Firefox is outstanding in this respect. All uniforms, guns and insignias are just OK if not to say perfect! Living not far from one of the metro stations (Kolomenskaya) adds certain thrill while watching it. Otherwise nothing special. Checking the E-bay for this DVD you get quite a low price which speaks for itself.. sagarputhanekar watch Striking Range movie

...normally indicates that the film you are about to watch is almost unbelievable - this film is an exception to the rule.
Like The Departed and Gone Baby Gone, What Doesn't Kill You is an engrossing, gritty, sharply written and well-acted drama set on the mean streets of South Boston, which, by the number of movies being set there, is fast becoming as notorious as the bronx.
What Doesn't Kill You has to be the film that will catapult Mark Ruffalo into the big time, his performance is sublime, he plays a character that stirs a number of emotions from inside - easily the star of this gritty, intense tale of two dysfunctional friends..

FIREFOX was way ahead of it's time!
Firefox isn't your usual Eastwood film, he's almost branching out into Star Wars territory here with this Sci-Fi heavy Cold War Spy thriller. The effects like every 80's film have dated badly but for a movie made in 1982 they are rather good. Eastwood directs himself in what is a pretty average performance by his own high standards. The majority of the cast is made up by British character actors. Warren Clarke is really good but Freddie Jones and Nigel Hawthorne are pretty hammy. Also Raiders of the Lost Ark fans can spot Ronald Lacey playing Semelovsky a Jewish scientist. The first half of the film is a spy thriller and can be pretty nail biting at times as Clint gets his papers checked at regular intervals. Also he's suffering from the same post Vietnam War disorder that John Rambo had in First Blood and that really adds to the tension. The second half is more like Star Wars and is really great stuff. So better ice up at a cold one and enjoy Firefox for what it is, Cold War entertainment at it's best..

Escape from Alcartaz is clint eastwood's master piece.
Professional Pilot - Amateur Spy
Firefox is an unusual film in that for once Clint Eastwood who usually
plays a very lone hand in his films as a hero has to depend on a team of people to accomplish his mission. And this is some mission he's got. I'm not quite sure why they didn't just spirit the scientist who developed the Firefox against his will out of the Soviet Union or at least the plans for the plane so the USA won't lag in that area of defense, but then we wouldn't have the basis for this film. Clint Eastwood is one of the Air Force's best pilots who was also a POW during Vietnam with the resulting horror stories from that experience. Eastwood still flashes back to Vietnam. But he also through his mother speaks fluent Russian. He's had no experience at intelligence work and it shows, but the Americans, British, and dissident Soviet Jews have put together a team to get him through to where this super MIG-31 is being developed. NOt only are its speeds greater than anything yet devised, but the pilot controls the weapons and guidance with mere thought. They don't even do that on Star Trek. As a spy Clint is strictly an amateur and makes some bad mistakes, but pulls through. But when he gets in the air with the stolen prototype of Firefox, the film really perks up in excitement. If you liked Top Gun and are an Eastwood fan, Firefox is definitely the film for you.. |
