The Missouri Breaks
Dazzling western with superstars Brando and Nicholson
starring under the direction of Arthur Penn in this story in 1880, set in the lovely Montana hills. It tells the story of a sadistic hired gun (Brando) commissioned to wipe out a gang of horse thieves led by Jack. There are exciting sequences within the piece and if anyone holds it together, it's legend Brando. Randy Quaid co-stars.. 
Uneven Performances Detract From Film
I,for one,am not impressed by this movie.I think the plot is
stereotyped,the characters cliched,and the technical work adequate,no more.All of the characters,save one, are shadowy and poorly defined.And THAT one,however,is the one that should be shadowy.Brando's Claxton,appears to have wandered in from another movie.Loud,outlandish,flamboyant,he sticks out like a sore thumb.This is the most self-indulgent performance have seen since Zero Mostel.And at least Mostel was entertaining.. |
