Such a Cool Film
It's got everything, including length! It's full of actors who later
became famous for other roles. It's more or less accurate historically.
It takes its time to develop the story with countless dirty, amusing,
moving details. I just love it and can't imagine why few people seem to
have even heard of it. I suppose it's a guy film.

An overriding theme depicted in many wonderful ways is the transition
of "authentic" heroes of the sort exemplified by Yaeger and other
unsung test pilots, to "astronauts" -- creatures of the media, no
braver than other pilots (although just as highly skilled) but marketed
as such for the pleasure of politicians and the bureaucracy of NASA in
the race for space. These astronauts cooperate with this
mischaracterization since it fits well their monumental egos, but the
director makes clear in myriad, nuanced ways (like during the fan dance
in the Astrodome) that deep inside they know they are shams in
comparison to those slogging away at Edwards without media attention
and unearned perks..
fire in the sky is very entertaining!.
kbieter watch Mum & Dad movie
Great movie.
This is great, I think that I will watch the movie again and again. I can't balieve that people havn't seen it before. I love it so much. This makes me so happy. dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddThe first seven Mercury astronauts: we go behind the prepackaged, unblemished saints we knew through the media to find imperfect human beings who were actually even more heroic. The astronauts are heroes, no doubt about it. As space pioneer Chuck Yaeger bitterly points out, these men all knew the risks they were taking as they rode their primitive capsules into space. They knew they were powered by rockets that could explode them into the tiniest of atoms. There were the fierce fires of re-entry that could reduce them to cinders, as well as the possibility of no re-entry, leaving them to perish miserably in their orbits. Yet these men eagerly took those risks. They were made of the right stuff d.

Highly recommed the Master and commander.
This is what happens when the writer doesn't understand his subject
Writer-director Phil Kaufman appears to have simply read Tom Wolfe's
excellent novel ('The Right Stuff', 1979) which chronicles the
pioneering of the space program, and then filmed this movie
accordingly, and as a result, it just doesn't succeed. Kaufman may have
read the book, but he misconstrued its contents and failed to grasp the
way it really was - in short, he didn't do his homework.

The many flaws here include drawing the seven original astronauts as
immature yahoos, depicting the astronaut's wives as spineless
jellyfish, and painting Gordon Cooper as the center of the early space
program.... totally false. All seven of the men were equally important
in the development of NASA. Read Wolfe's great book instead.

The best thing about this film is an appearance by U.S. Air Force pilot
General Chuck Yeager as a bartender at Pancho's Place..
