no respect for an epic story
OK, I'm a big superman fan and for that matter I'm a fan of just about
every superhero. I'm also a big fan of all the DC animated projects, especially justice league unlimited, but this was totally screwed up! 80 mins is nowhere near long enough to tell this story for a start. its obvious that a trilogy would have served the story far better, superman dies at the end of the first movie, reign of the supermen for the 2nd and then the return in the last. it was ridiculous that not a single other hero turned up to help fight doomsday when in the comic every man and his dog made an appearance, which only shows how tough doomsday was to beat in the first place, i think it only took supes about 25mins (dvd time) to kill doomsday, thats crazy!, and then there is no mention of his body for the rest of the film. i also have to say i thought the animation was very average at best, it was too close to all the other DC animations, which look great, but the minor changes made in this film just brought the whole quality down. this film should have been all CGI. lets hope DC have enough sense to remake this epic story with the respect it deserves.... mickeycool57 watch MASH movie

Interesting to see superman get his butt whipped for a change!.
It would have been better if they had showed it on T.V. with commercials.
As a movie it's entertaining. It's the kind of thing you'd sit down
with a bunch of friends with a bowl of popcorn and have fun. If that's what you want it for your not going to be disappointed. But there are some people would look for more in comic book adaptations. They want it to stay true to the source material... or else! I'm not so much like the but I still felt as though it were a bit rushed. The fight with DoomsDay went by surprisingly fast, and then the clone came out just as quick. The reason for this is not crappy writing. The writing was terrific and full of emotion. The true fault lies in the pace. The people who made this stand alone movie are the same people who made the popular animated series. When the shows are written for T.V. they have a time restriction for commercials so scene that are made no matter how interesting are cut off at a critical point. As it would appear the same writers took that practice of pacing themselves as how they would conduct with this film. Which is why important events like Superman's death seem to go by at quick speed before the viewer is allowed to get a grip on what's happening. If's this were made for T.V. (which it might as well have been) this feeling of disconnect would not have happened. The commercials would compensate in the build up of suspense. Another problem is the fact that it IS a stand alone that has no backing from the series which it bears a striking resemblance to aside for every character looking Hispanic, more adult theme's and such skilled animation that the show could never compete with. The violence isn't so much intense as it is over done. Characters seem intent on beating each other senseless until they die or pass out. In one scene Luther beats that Superman clone to an extent that was just excruciating. That's what the cartoons are like; lots of punches, loud bang noises, and super beings running around throwing laser blasts at each other through their hands. I enjoyed it but don't expect to much from it. If you feel moved during a part consider that a bonus.. |
