A film for the MTV generation!?!
The movie purist in me should really hate 'Jackass: The Movie', as it
isn't really a movie and more like an extended series of rather lewd and crazy skits, but I found myself laughing more than once as well as being grossed out. Lets face it, you need to have some knowledge of the TV show to really be anywhere near interested in watching this film. I couldn't be bothered with the movie until I saw "Wild Boyz" featuring former Jackass members in Steve O and Chris "aka: Party Boy" Pontius- which then made me curious about the Jackass television series and then the film. 'Jackass: The Movie' doesn't claim to be innovative, and the film works best if you semi-know these "jackasses" from the TV shows. The movie will probably only have significance with the current climate, and I doubt it could stand on its own. I think someone watching the film without any knowledge of its background and expect a plot will probably end up hating it. I didn't hate it, but I realise stupidity was its allure, and for the most part, I laughed and was equally shocked at some of the outlandish things that were done in the skits in the film. It's either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid, but regardless, the artistic merit is the sheer amount of crazy stunts you can perform without getting seriously injured or seriously sick. I know I wouldn't ever have me some of these things put to film for everyone to see, so for that, Johnny Knoxville and his crew are pretty brave! Though 10 years down the track they might be very embarrassed! My favourite skit was definitely the Butterbean one, and most of the skits were either obnoxious or filled with crazy stunts in golf buggies (Speaking of golf, I too was rooting for the golfers to beating the living **** outta them, lol)! Other skits were captivating due to the sheer disbelief that someone actually did that in front of a camera and allowed it to be filmed, and it's kind of perversely funny but ultimately pretty damn gross! But then again, movies with a plot rely on toilet humour too, expect certain Jackass members took it literally. 'Jackass: The Movie' is definitely one for the MTV generation--- however long that lasts! *** out of *****!. Grant watch Shanghai Noon movie
