This is not a movie I would normally seek out, and I didn't, but my
public library got it, so I watched it. Good that it is rated 'PG' but
there are a few scenes when the older brother says "I am going to KILL
you" and that thought doesn't seem very PG to me.

Zachary Gordon is the lead character Greg Heffley. Even though he was
supposed to be 12 going into the 6th grade, he really was 11 during
filming, I suppose to exaggerate the size different between him (very
small) and the other middle school kids (much larger). On the morning
of his first day, his high school older brother gives him advice,
"Don't say anything, don't do anything, don't get involved with
anything and you MIGHT survive middle school."

Of course that isn't something Greg can do. He views himself as
something special among mere mortals and it is just a matter of time,
he thinks a very short time, before he is recognized campus-wide as the
special young man he is. But in reality he isn't special, he can't run
faster, or wrestle better than the others. He even gets taken down by a
girl! He is a wimpy kid.

Robert Capron as Rowley Jefferson is Greg's best friend, but Rowley has
a way of saying the wrong thing in almost every situation. When Greg is
seriously considering snubbing Rowley, the opposite happens. Rowley
gets to be popular, and wins the cartoon contest Greg was so sure he
would win, and thus his trials continue.

Most adults would probably tire of this movie quickly, as my wife did,
and just walk away. I stuck with it, there are some entertaining
scenes, but overall probably best viewed by the 10 to 13 year old kids.

Rachael Harris, Greg's mom, is played by Susan Heffley. Steve Zahn is
the dad, Frank Heffley..

Ace ventura is the best funniest movie evar!.

I rented this movie for my 9 year old and was surprised at how good it
was. The film seemed to come and go in the theaters without much of a
fuss, so I figured it would be pretty average. What I found instead,
was a really funny, warm and entertaining movie. The film portrays the
ups and down of middle school with a lot of humor thrown in. And most
importantly, it shows the merit of true friendship and just being
yourself. The child actors are all very good, especially the main
character, the nerdy best friend, the older brother and the loud
obnoxious pig-tailed girl. Great casting, writing and directing on this
one--thumbs up!
